Tainted Blood
Hepatitis C - Plaintiff’s Claim v. Government of Canada and the Red Cross
Harvin Pitch was one of the counsel for the plaintiffs in the Hepatitis C tainted blood class action and as such played a major role spearheading the action in Bankruptcy Court in proceedings involving the Red Cross. The plaintiff team was responsible for securing a settlement with the federal government of $1.2 billion dollars and Ontario received 60 % of that amount for the representative plaintiffs who will continue to suffer from the effects of Hepatitis C for the rest of their lives. The Bankruptcy Court proceedings were an integral part of the class action proceedings and influenced the federal government in the settlement negotiations in favour of the plaintiff class.
